Billy Bragg takes Glasto easy: just 4 shows

Comments

Billy Bragg says that Glastonbury 2011 was an easy one for him - the Q columnist just limited himself to four performances at the festival.

While U2 just did the one set, the likes of The Vaccines two (with a trip to Milan on their day off), Bragg limited himself to four performances this year, including a surprise slot at the Left Field Stage he runs and a turn with Professor Brian Cox for Radio 4 panel show The Infinite Monkey Cage.

"I had a relatively relaxed Glastonbury, appearing only four times in three days this year," Bragg told us. "My record is eight times in three days but that was a few years ago. Since I've been curating the Left Field, I have to be on hand to iron out the wrinkles backstage."

However pressed about those wrinkles, Bragg admitted he was so busy he didn't see much over the weekend (24-26 June).

"I only got to see one act other than at the Left Field all weekend - Lee Scratch Perry - but that was only becuse he was on across the road at the Glade," he explained, adding that he was making up for lost time now.

"I'm recovering this week by chilling with a beer in front of the iPlayer and catching up on all the great music I missed over the weekend," he said.
