Glastonbury Festival 2011 Day 1 Guide: whether you're on site or at home

On site: You know who the headliners are, so here are the Q staff's personal recommendations from elsewhere on the bill

Chase + Status
West Holts, 9.15pm
Their records are fine, but onstage is where the drum'n'bass duo really come to life with the reassuring promise of a thrilling assault on the senses that brings to mind the storm The Prodigy once whipped up.
Paul Rees, Editor In Chief

Summer Camp
Oxlers In West, 1pm
Boy-girl duo Jeremy Warmsley and Elizabeth Sankey mix C86-style indie pop, shimmering keyboards and a love of '80s film-maker John Hughes to create wistful tales of teenage heartbreak.
Chris Catchpole, Now Editor

Metronomy
Pyramid Stage, 12.05pm
Not that I'm knocking The Master Musicans Of Joujouka's opening slot, but Metronomy's early afternoon slot should kick the Pyramid Stage properly into life, with their jolting electro-pop glides providing the perfect accompaniment to that mid-afternoon alcohol haze.
Niall Doherty, Associate Editor (Reviews)

Miles Kane
John Peel stage, 2.15pm
The part-time Shadow Puppet has been growing into the solo star role with some skill lately. Expect wild solos, heartthrob poses and a very tight live band lead by Domino Records's own Eugene McGuinness, who been moonlighting on guitar for Miles.
Paul Stokes, Associate Editor (Digital)

At home: here's the best of the festival on the box

U2 live
With the band due to take the Pyramid Stage at 10pm, you can follow the first half of Bono and co's set on BBC2 (Glastonbury coverage starts at 9.45pm), then switch over to BBC4 at 10.30 for the rest of action, a bit like when the cricket would switch channels in the '80s. If there's anything left come 11, BBC2 will be up the slack again.
