You'd scarcely believe that The Horrors still feature the same gents who recorded their noir horror debut Strange House in 2007. Yet here they still are, the same boys from Southend-on-Sea, but creating a drastically different soundscape.
Their forthcoming LP Skying (out 11 July), is a spacious and delicate record, with lead single Still Life providing a good taster of what's to come.
Featuring singer Faris Badwan's trademark melodious drone, Still Life incorporates a warm, slightly fuzzy bass tone along with clear drums and a retro synth lead. The video clip below does well to capture the feeling of the tune: ever-so-slightly psychedelic but not in a why-are-there-trees-growing-out-of-my-fingernails way. Instead Still Life warmly invites you to shut your eyes and just sway along as the song ebbs and flows.
With the band playing the John Peel stage at Glastonbury this weekend (June 25), a live preview of Still Life and some of Skying's other choice cuts is bound to be on the cards.
Qthemusic.com will be coming live from the 2011 Glastonbury Festival, so you can follow all the action right here throughout the weekend (24-26 June).
