Q's Quick Qatch-Up with...O'Death

Comments

Our (apparently self-important) Track Of The Day yesterday - we just thought we were writing nice things about and inspired a great song - O'Death craft stark, beautiful songs that blend bluegrass, country and folk with a dramatic, urgent edge. Based in Brooklyn, the six-piece released their new album yesterday. And very good it is, too. In fact you can stream it in its entirety below. So do that while you read drummer David Rogers-Berry's QQQ answers.

What's been the highlight of your week so far?
Getting paid to play music! Just a little money, but I'm like a mouse - I can live off crumbs.

Where will you be and what will you be doing this time tomorrow?
Hopefully sleeping! I've been so busy since O'Death finished the European tour.

What's your current favourite song or album?
I'm really digging Lambchop's album, Nixon, that I swiped from City Slang's warehouse when we were at their office a few weeks ago. The album's ten years old, but City Slang reissued it last year, and it's new to me.

How many shots of tequila do you think you've had in your life?
O'Death is definitely more of a whiskey drinking band, but I've had my fare share of tequila over the years. Let's estimate it in the hundreds.

Compare your last show with your first ever gig.
Well, we're certainly WAY tighter than we were back then, less drunk, and there are just a few more people at our shows now.

What do you think is your worst song?
Wow - uh. Perhaps the b-side to the single Spider Home which is called Silk Hole. The song starts off really nice, and just when you think it's going somewhere it pretty much falls apart. I feel like the ideas in this recording are great but the execution is pretty half-assed.

Describe your life so far in 5 words.
Why are we so morbid??

Outside is out now on City Slang.
