Having just released their acclaimed second record, Gloss Drop, experimental New York rockers Battles have kindly presented Q with a Spotify playlist, having recently been featured as a Track Of The Day. Dave Konopka and John Stanier guide us through their eclectic ten song playlist.
Battles - Ice Cream feat. Matias Aguayo
Dave: "Our first single off the new album. I hope you enjoy!"
Pixels - Head On
Dave: "I used to play air guitar to this song, and that was when I first realized that I should actually learn how to play guitar, rather than just waste my time playing air guitar."
Polvo - Every Holy Shroud
Dave: "This song used to get me super pumped back in the day when I was learning how to play guitar. Polvo were a great band."
Barry White - It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next To Me
John: "It depends on which version you guys got but this is one of my favourite intros ever. This also has my favourite snare sound ever."
Van Halen - Mean Street
John: "I figured we needed a little rock in here, being that we are indeed a rock band. What better way to kick off the rock section with a little classic era Halen?"
808 State - Cobra Bora
John: "I remember when this came out and I saw them in New York. It was also the first time I did something I can't mention here, but it (808 State) were awesome.
Talking Heads - Born Under Punches
Dave: "During the making of Glass Drop I became obsessed with Rempin In Light and More Songs About Buildings And Food. Born Under Punches is one of my favourite tracks."
The Prodigy - Voodoo People
John: "Not only do I love The Prodigy, but they were also really cool guys who let me introduce them onstage at Roskilde... Thank you Prodigy!"
Syd Barrett - Octopus
Dave: "I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan. I'm reading the 33 1/3 series Piper At The Gates Of Dawn book and wanted to give some props to Syd."
The Brothers Johnson - Stomp!
John: "The best 'hands in the air' uplifting chorus ever!! 1980s LA funk at its finest!!"
