Soulwax launch their own mash-up radio station via App

Comments

Soulwax have launched their own radio station - via a new app and they've given Q an exclusive hour long taster of their broadcasts.

Radio Soulwax is streaming a continuous mix of music, combined with sounds and animations, that are based around hour-long slots all with a different theme.

Over the next few months, the band - who also ply their dancefloor filling trade under the name 2ManyDJs - will periodically add a new hour of music to the app based around a different theme.

As an exclusive taster Soulwax have given us 60 minutes of Ibiza-inspired music under the title Mehari.

Other themes planned include "Bad Rap", "Celestial Voyage Pt 1" and "Librarian Girl".

"The first time we spent some quality time on the island of Ibiza, we were appalled by the music blasting from every bar, shop, club and car stereo," the band explained of the exclusive preview, adding that the project that has been over two years in the making.

"So we decided to make our own soundtrack to the white island. We did this by burning these compilations of slightly darker electronic music from different eras with a similar sound and kept listening to them whilst driving around."

In terms of the vidual element, the group put as much effort as gone into the animations as they did creating the stream of mash-ups: "Instead of animating the record sleeves, we ran them through our amazing Fairlight CVI mixer - a rare and incredible video effects machine which turns everything into either video art, or an 80s music video. It depends how you look at it, but it goes perfectly with the music."

Head to Radiosoulwax.com for more on the project and download it for the iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch from iTunes or for Android platforms via the Android Market.
