Having whipped up an online storm with a series of exceptional EPs, Washed Out - Atlanta, Georgia resident Ernest Greene - has matched the hype with a cracking full length album.
Eyes Be Closed is the opening track from LP Within And Without (which was released on Monday, 11 July) and introduces a more assured Washed Out. Forget any notions of one man bedroom producers, this is horizon-filling stuff recorded with Animal Collective collaborator Ben Allen.
"The sound of those early songs [on the EPs] was an aesthetic choice, but also a practical one," says Greene hinting at the wider scope possessed by his debut album. "With Within and Without, however, I wanted the songs to develop from a more live, organic place and so some things necessarily changed."
As the four star Q Review of Within And Without - which can be read in our current issue, Q301 - suggests, it's a change for the good.
