Florence + The Machine: 'I didn't inspire David Cameron's baby name' - Q306 preview

Comments

Florence Welch doesn't believe Prime Minister David Cameron was inspired by her to name his daughter Florence - by is happy to help revive "an old lady's name".

There was speculation that the Tory leader called his daughter, who was born last year, in honour of the Florence + The Machine frontwoman after Cameron said he he'd brought was her debut album Lungs just months before the baby was born.

Although the PM has never admitted the connection, Florence (the singer, not the baby) has told Q she doesn't think she was the inspiration.

"I'm sure that was nothing to do with me! Gosh. Well, because Florence is an old lady's name it's good to bring it back," explained Welch, although she admitted she wasn't always a Florence fan herself.

"When I was a little girl I definitely didn't want to be called Florence," she explained. "I wanted a cool American name, like Sandy."

A full interview with Florence + The Machine is coming in the next issue of Q which hits UK newsstands in just under two weeks.
