New To Q With Chris Catchpole - Zane Lowe introduces the Faces Of 2012 with Emeli Sande, Frank Ocean & Lana Del Rey

Comments

Our new issue (which hit UK newsstands yesterday, 29 November), features 12 new talents we believe will be making it big in 2012.

You can grab Q306 now for interviews and more on all the featured artists, but to kick us off Radio 1's Zane Lowe introduces the three acts who were nominated for the Q Next Big Thing Award by a special jury led by the DJ.

Join us for the next few weeks as we'll showcase one of this year's new faces each day (all buy our issue now for all of them), but in the meantime it's over to Zane with our three trailblazers.

Emeli Sande

Zane Lowe: "She definitely has her own voice. She's taken a classic soul approach without veering into the Amy Winehouse or Bruno Mars terriroty - a sense that the artist is harking back to a certain time... She's singing the notes she needs to reach that emotional resonance within herself.

Frank Ocean

Zane Lowe: "Frank is going to be one of the most exciting artists of the year, hands down because he's approaching R&B songs in a hop hop way. It makes sense that he's part of the Odd Future crew becayse his beats are so tough and essential."

Lana Del Rey - Winner of the 2011 Q Next Big Thing Award

Zane Lowe: "When I first heard her, I got that image of a circus leaving town. There's a sense that her songwriting comes from a place that's off the beaten track. She's a unique pop star for now because of the sound of her music... and at this moment, that's exactly what we need."

Plus if you're in the mood for checking out some new talent, join us for Q Now: The Sessions gigs at London's XOYO in January.

The line-up so far is:

Dry The River, Clock Opera, Rae Morris (23 January)
Emeli Sande & Michael Kiwanuka (24)
To Kill A King, Jamie N Commons, Jodie Marie (25)
Howler & Zulu Winter (26)

Tickets cost £10, get them from Aloud.com now.
