Q Now: The Sessions - Day 2
London XOYO,
Tuesday, 24 January 2012
Last night in 100 words...
The second night of Q's residency was an opportunity to run the rule over two of 2012's most highly anticipated acts. First up was Michael Kiwanuka performing a stripped-down set, but soaked with with a worldly charisma, so strong are the 24-year-old's songs (think a nu-folk Van Morrison) it never feels sparse. Emeli Sande's epic pop, meanwhile, is reliant on the slick, sophisticated execution of her backing band. Though not all of her choruses are quite as bombastically nailed-on as hits Heaven and Daddy, it's safe to say she won't be revisiting a venue of XOYO's intimate proportions any time soon...

View from the crowd: "Thanks so much Emeli Sande and Michael Kiwanuka for what could be the best gig of 2012! Thanks." @franceshwilson
A full review will appear in a future issue of Q, plus stay tuned for a picture gallery featuring all the Q Now: The Sessions acts
