Q Now: The Sessions Who Are Ya? Zulu Winter

Comments

Next week (23-27 January) Q Now: The Sessions take over London's XOYO for a series of gigs. Each day this week we're speaking to one of the acts who'll be playing and finding out a bit more about the fresh talent on show. And if you want to be there, enter our competition to win tickets now.

Who are ya?
"Will Daunt, Zulu Winter singer."

What are your qualifications?
"We're five friends who have been messing around making music with each other for a while. About 18 months ago we began writing an album, and here we are."

What would you have on your rider for your Q show if money was no object?
"John Peel. He'd sooth any amount of pre-gig nerves with that honeyed voice. A condition would be that he was very favourable about the show afterwards, as I'm not sure I could take any criticism from him. Also, I'm sure people would be more excited about John Peel being alive and well than Zulu Winter playing a show, but it's a risk I'm willing to take."

What do you think of the other act on the bill with you, Howler?
"I'm sure they're lovely young men."

What's your plan for world domination this year?
"No grand plan, just playing to as many people as we can."

Which song of yours should people get their dancing shoes on for at the show?
"Either our current single We Should Be Swimming or Silver Tongue."

What's your motto?
"Keep a low emotional profile. Especially when crammed in a van with six other men for months on end."

Which one track of yours should we listen to before your Q Now: The Sessions show?
"We Should Be Swimming (above). It's danceable, but also a little melancholic.

Q Now: The Sessions line-up:
Dry The River, Clock Opera, Rae Morris (23 January)
Emeli Sande, Michael Kiwanuka (24)
To Kill A King, Jamie N Commons, Jodie Marie (25)
Howler & Zulu Winter (26)
