According to the Mayan calendar (not to mention ropey Hollywood blockbuster 2012), this very year is set to usher in the end of the human race via a series of catastrophic (though visually impressive if you believe the movie) natural disasters on 21 December.
Well if you've got to go, you should go in style, so here's ten songs to soundtrack the end of days (and if the world really does explode, we promise, none of these puns will survive).

6. Elvis Costello - Waiting For The End Of The World
Get it: My Aim Is True, album
A song that puts the end of civilization into perspective, it could be worse, you could be stuck on a train with a bunch of nutters like poor ol' Elvis is on this track.
7. St Vincent - The Apocalypse Song>
Get it: Actor, album
Does what it says on the tin.
8. Blur - Out Of Time
Get it: Think Tank (album)
Yep no time to swim with the dophins now my friend, the Mayans say we're all going to fry.
9. U2 - Until The End Of The World
Get it: Achtung Baby (album)
Presumably about how long The Edge plans to wear his little hats.
10. Europe - The Final Countdown
Get it: The Final Countdown (album)
Everything has a jingle these days, so what better than this to soundtrack the last few seconds of existence.
