The Q Festival Blog - The Top 5 acts at Camden Crawl 2012

Comments

What to do with your bank holiday weekend? Do you sit at home, sleep periodically and eat whole packets of Jammy Dodgers? Or do you throw the duvet off, have a shower for once and do it big? If your choice was the latter, then chances are you attended, or at least considered attending, North London's multi-venue festival, the Camden Crawl (4-6 May). Held in over 25 venues in the musical borough, the Crawl boasted some of the best new and established acts. Here's the five best as seen by our man Joe Bishop, so you could stay in and watch Mad Men until your eyes bled.

Niki And The Dove
A surprisingly early slot at Koko for the Sound Of 2012 shortlisters (above), but it didn't seem to bother them all too much. Their jangly electropop filled the cavernous venue nicely, ebbing between lively and bouncy to a more subtle and buzzy quietness.

Lady Leshurr
The self-aShurred Brummie rapper brought vibrant attitude by the bagload, her concious and concise lyrics coupled with her furious, fiery flow added a delicious underground flavour to the weekend's proceedings.

Micachu And The Shapes
Another beguiling oddity came in the form of Mica Levy AKA Micachu And The Shapes. From her angelic highs, but when the tunes get darker and the synths overbear the frontwoman's voice became an entirely different, mesmerising beast.

Disclosure
The young South London duo brought a bit of sunshine to an otherwise permanently gloomy Sunday afternoon, playing a buoyant mixture of garage, house and their own tracks, including their shoo-in hit remix of Jessie Ware's Running.

Weird Dreams
The time slot of 11:20PM was perfect for the dream-pop four-piece. As the 2012 Crawl drew to a close, sleepy beach rock songs like Little Girl proved to be perfect swansong for the weekender. And then on to the after party! Wahey!
