The Q Festival Blog - A chat with the boss: Hop Farm's Vince Power

Comments

Kent's Hop Farm Festival kicks off this weekend (29 June - 1 July) with Peter Gabriel, Bobd Dylan and Suede headlining, while the likes of Patti Smith (read our Q&a now), Richard Ashcroft, Ray Davies and, er, Bruce Forsyth also set to play. We spoke to the boss Vince Power for the ultimate insiders guide to the festival.

How are the preparations for this year's festival currently going?
"Good, before any festival, no matter how many years you've done it, there's always things that come up but so far so good."

What acts on the bill are you most proud of booking this year?
"Bob Dylan!"

Talking of Bob, he's played Hop Farm before, which isn't bad for a festival that's only five years-old. What's the secret of keeping the great man happy?
"I think the Hop Farm ethos and a little bit of money does the trick."

Who else are you looking forward to this year?
"I'm interested in seeing Bruce he has been in entertainment a long time, he's sung with all the greats, Sinatra, etc. There are so many talented acts here, it's hard to single one out, I'm looking forward to seeing all of them, like Primal Scream."

Have you managed to 'sneak' any personal favourites on to the bill, if so who?
"If I was to squeeze all my personal favourites on to the bill I would loose a fortune."

Can you recommend us one non-musical thing from this year's event?
"Yep, Russell Kane."

Any site changes festival goers should note?
"There's a lot more stuff happening, extra stages and a busker's boulevard around the site."

What's the latest travel advice ahead of the weekend?
"Travelling to the Hop is usually pretty good, good travel connections. Travelling by public transport, 20-40 minutes and we provide a free shuttle bus from Paddock Wood Station straight to festival throughout the whole weekend including the Thursday before and Monday after."

Is there one act who you haven't booked yet are you still desperate to have on?
"Not this year - I try booking The Who every year but it hasn't worked out... yet."
