The Summer Series At Somerset House in London is the festival for people who don't like mud or leaving cities and love nice, stately surroundings. Q is previewing all of this year's headliners with a series of interviews and today it's the turn of David Boulter from Tindersticks who plays in the courtyard on 15 July with Emmy The Great. Head to Somersethouse.org.uk for more details including the latest ticket news.
Describe your 'sound' in three words:
"Jazz for cowboys."
How will you be travelling to the gig?
What can we expect from your set outside in the London air at Somerset House?
"Something beautiful. Songs to make you cry. Make you fuck on the back seat of the bus home. Or music to just watch the Thames drift by to."
Is there anything you've got planned for the Somerset House show you can tell us about?
"Hopefully getting a few more of the musicians who made our last album with us. Maybe something new."
Can you tell us about the acts on the bill with you?
"Emmy The Great is playing with us. We've met before, very nice. We nearly did some shows together. Looking forward to it."
What one song of yours should we listen to get us in the mood for you show?
"Medicine. It's part of where we're at the moment. And it's a good song."
The Royal Society used to be housed at Somerset House - what one scientific invention would transform your life and why?
"A brain/computer interface. It'd be great to be able to just load any program you want. To be able to speak Czech fluently at the click of a button. To download all this shit from my mind and have it easily accessible so I don't have to worry about remembering it. That'd be good for me.
Where's your favourite place in London?
"Too many. I really love just walking around. Especially when you turn a corner and find some old building or little alley you'd not noticed before. I lived there for nine years. On days off work I'd go to some random tube station and just walk around, see what was there and how it all connects together."
