Music from tonight's opening ceremony for the London Paralympics Games - which is set to feature Professor Stephen Hawking (not musically of course) - will be released as a digital album, Enlightenment - Music For The Opening Ceremony Of The London 2012 Paralympic Games, at midnight following the events in the stadium. Coldplay are set to play the closing ceremony.

Duran Duran have cancelled the remained of their US tour as Nick Rhodes is ill. The keyboard player has been suffering from a "possible viral infection" for a week and has been advised by doctors he is not fit to perform.

US indie band The Decemberists will feature in The Simpsons alongside Tom Waits. The musicians will appear in an episode entitled The Day The World Stood Cool, which will air in December (appropriately enough).

Kanye West has won a lawsuit thanks to Nietzsche. Songwriter Vincent Peters claimed the rapper had taken "Now that don't kill me/ Can only make me stronger" from him for his 2010 song Stronger, however a judge in the US has pointed out that Nietzsche said it first, in 1888.

The three members of Pussy Riot who sentenced to two years in prison have filed an appeal against their conviction for hooliganism. Their lawyer is pessimistic about their chances of throwing out the conviction, but they hope to get the trio's sentences reduced.
