The xx are loving miserable pop right now, Franz man launches new side project, Noel Gallagher set for DVD release... Daily Hot List
Wednesday, 22 August

The xx, who release new album Coexist on 10 September, believe that pop music has become miserable - which is perfect for them. "We're too close to the music to feel like we're an influence, but if that's so, it's cool, I like that," said singer/ guitarist Romy Madley-Croft to suggestions they inspired the likes of Drake or Frank Ocean to be darker. "Mainstream pop is a bit more introspective and emotional now, like how Adele's Someone Like You is everyone's favourite song and it's so heart-breaking. It's interesting to me-- people do seem to like sadness more nowadays, I suppose."
