The Q Festival Blog - Five acts to see at Bestival 2012

Comments

If you go to the Isle Of Wight this weekend you're sure to see some strangely dressed people in outfits loosely dressed around a "wildlife" theme. Yep Bestival, the festival-cum-massive fancy-dress party is back for 2012 (7-9 September), with Florence + The Machine, New Order and Stevie Wonder headlining. However away from the bill toppers, here are five acts who are playing across the weekend we think are worth donning your fancy dress for and checking out too. Plus read our insider's guide to the festival with boss Rob da Bank now, and download The Q Festival App for more.

Bat For Lashes
Natasha Khan's forthcoming new album The Haunted Man is getting repeated plays on the Q office stereo, so we can't recommend a chance to see her play a few new songs - plus play a few classics too - enough this weekend.

Doom
Admittedly part of the draw for Doom's set this weekend is just to see who actually turns up: the man himself, or as with a recent party a stand in in his trademark iron mask (perhaps he's turning Doom into a franchise)? Whoever is playing the music, expect to hear some of the best EastEnders inspired hip-hop you ever.

The Time And Space Machine
Fresh from turning Amy Winehouse's Rehab into a Hawkwind-esque Krautrock wig-out for our recent Back To Black tribute CD, Richard Norris and co's sonic journeys will provide the perfect soundtrack for late night adventures on the Isle Of Wight.

Palma Violets
Hot signings to Rough Trade, the south London upstarts mix the energy of an early Clash with the musical brutality of a classic Fall line-up. They're not going to 'save music' - that's never been the point of Palma Violets despite some of the early hype - but they seem a darn good band in the making, possibly one you may even come to love so check them out while they're still learning their trade.

Chas & Dave
Cruelly overlooked for the Olympics' Opening Ceremony's celebration of Britishness, even if they do say so themselves, Bestival makes amends this weekend by giving the Eminem collaborators (well they played on a sample he once used) a stage. However don't write the duo off as a mere novelty act, you will humming Snooker Loopy on the ferry home...
