Bobby Womack: 'Monkee' business nearly stopped me working with Damon Albarn (Q Awards video)
Bobby Womack has told Q he nearly missed out on working with Damon Albarn because he didn't take Gorillaz seriously.
The singer was speaking after winning Best Album at yesterday's (22 October) Q Awards for The Bravest Man In The Universe which he worked on with Damon Albarn among others.
"My daughter said Dad, when are you going to listen to Gorillaz? And I said I never heard of em, do you know them?" he recalled.
"When I stopped wanting to be in the [music] business there was a group around called The Monkees, now you're telling me about the Gorillaz? But Damon said come in and sing, he believed in me so much."
