Andy Burrows will release his new album next Monday (22 October), but you can hear now in full via our exclusive stream.
Company is the latest release from the man who has also been busy recording with We Are Scientists and Editors frontman Tom Smith.
"This album was very much inspired by the whole experience of making a record with Tom last year - I got so much out of it creatively, learned a lot from working with Tom, we had so much fun writing, recording & touring that record - It was very elating," Burrows tells Q by way of introducing the record.
"During the tour last December, I started writing. The songs just felt more honest and true this time. It really felt like I was just writing for myself, as opposed to perhaps trying to prove myself - which is how I felt post Razorlight. This record felt natural. I didn't have a record deal when I started to write, so it wasn't like I even had any idea whether it would be released, and as a result its a very heart-on-sleeve record.
"I recorded it with Tim Baxter in his loft in West London, but around March I decided to move me and my family out to live in New York, so was back and forth between the two; I think there's some of that in there - there's quite a bit of travel on this record. The songs also deal with leaving people behind, being left behind. Missing family, friends, enjoying being back together with people, difficult relationships... One in particular that's still on my mind a lot of the time - Johnny [Borrell, Razorlight] and I were once very close, now we don't talk at all."
