One of the three Pussy Riot singers jailed for hooliganism has been freed. Judges at their band's appeal accepted that Yekaterina Samutsevich had not fully participated in the punk protest in Moscow's main cathedral in March because she had been thrown out of the building shortly before it started. Her bandmates, Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, however will have to serve their two year sentences at prison colonies in Russia. Speaking in court they insisted they did not want to offend anyone but were criticising the government's control of society.
