Gig Review
Of all the bands you’d expect to see accompanied onstage by a string section, The View must be fairly near the bottom of the list. But that’s exactly what happened at this month’s Sony Ericsson Presents Q The Music Club Live At London’s Hard Rock Café show when the unruly Dundee mob were joined by a cellist and a violinist. Oh, and semi-naked, trombone-wielding producer Owen Morris.
Decked out in uncharacteristically smart suits – and, in the case of singer Kyle Falconer, a fetching pink flower stuck in his hair – the usually dishevelled quartet romped through a mix of tracks from their debut album, Hats Off To The Buskers, and brand new follow-up, Which Bitch?.
The assembled crowd – including, bizarrely, Cash In The Attic presenter/former Strictly Come Dancing hoofer Dominic Littlewood – cheered on the likes of 5 Rebbeccas and Superstar Tradesman, but the best reception was reserved for brilliantly wonky sea shanty Distant Dubloon, featuring able assistance from the topless Morris.
Whether anyone actually understood Falconer and guitarist Pete Reilly impenetrably accented between song banter, on the other hand, is debatable. New track Temptation Dice brought a splendidly ramschackle evening to a close. A tough act for next month’s Q The Music Club star, Bat For Lashes to follow.

Fan Review
Our lucky competition winner won a Sony Ericsson phone, opportunity to review the gig and interview the band (shot on a Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot™ phone). See below to see what they thought:
The Hard Rock Café played host to a small but very packed room of folk eagerly awaiting the launch of The Views 2nd album, ‘Which Bitch?. The Scottish rockers showed how much they have matured since their 1st album ‘Hats off to the Buskers’, their tracks more diverse, although still highlighting the lead singer Kyle’s staggering tones. A string and brass section joined the band on stage to deliver songs from both albums, I found this a surprise but it worked very well. The intimate crowd paid attention, soaking in the music by dancing and chanting ‘The View are on Fire’ they most definitely are, welcome back The View!
