Gig Review

The hotly-tipped Nashville-based four piece Mona kicked off the first ever Q Live At Concrete show on January 17, 2011. It's likely to be the last time in a while you'll see this lot in a setting as intimate as this.

Our lucky competition winner won the opportunity to review the gig and interview the band. See below to see what they thought:

Tipped by many as one to watch in 2011 Mona were greeted with eager anticipation as they made their way to the stage for the first ever Q live at Concrete. Keeping the introductions short lead singer Nick Brown lead the band into their first song of the night, Trouble On The Way, warming the crowd up with the kind of music Mona will no doubt come to be known for. Right from the off the band played with a polished precision, the desire to entertain was evident in abundance and it didn’t take long for the Rock ‘n’ Roll preachers to take their hold on the crowd leaving them hanging for the next thumping instalment. Firing out their debut single, Listen to Your Love, it was clear to see how the band wanted to explore varying emotions in the fast paced 3 minute melody of magic, it would be just as at home on the main stage of Glastonbury as it was in the intimate acoustics of Concrete. Teenager, the bands forthcoming single, picked up perfectly from the previous two and became another highlight of what was an altogether excellent performance. It's clear to see why Mona are creating such a stir at the moment and if their future album release follows the lines currently drawn then the recognition they desire will surely be theirs. - Fan review by Tom Bagley
